Cloth Diaper Wash and Care Preparation Prefolds - All Chinese Prefolds will arrive very flat and stiff. This is normal, cloth diapers need to be washed and dried several times (5 to 10 times) to increase their absorbency. Washing and drying will also cause the diapers to quilt up and become softer. Unbleached diapers will require additional wash/drying cycles to remove the natural oils which will interfere with their effectiveness. Hemp - All Hemp products will need up to 8 more washings and dries before it is fully absorbent. The first few times you wash hemp products you should NOT wash them with fleece products. Hemp has natural oils in it and the oils can coat your fleece. After your hemp has been fully primed you may wash it with all of your diapering products. All other diapers, covers, inserts, and wipes should be washed and dried once prior to initial use. All wool covers must be lanolized prior to use. Washing Instructions Detergents to avoid:%u2028The following detergents will cause a soap build up. Do NOT use them.%u2028Dr. Bronner%u2019s Soap%u20287th Generation%u2028Bio-Kleen%u2028Ivory Snow%u2028Dreft %u2028Free and Clear detergents.%u2028Sport-Wash and Sensi-Clean %u2013 These have the potential for detergent burn in babies. Never use fabric softener of any kind on reusable diapers. Liquid fabric softeners and dryer sheets both leave a waxy residue which causes fleece to repel urine and decreases the absorbency of other diapers. Diaper rash creams can also cause repelling. For best results either place a disposable liner, or fleece liner in addition to your cloth diapers. Washing Diapers%u2028 1.) Shake (or nudge with toilet paper) any solid waste into the toilet a diaper sprayer is very handy 2.) Collect all diapers in a dry pail. The benefit of using a diaper pail liner is that the liner and diapers all go into the wash together. 3.) Run diapers through a cold prewash to loosen any additional messes. If you do not have a pre-wash on your machine consider a cold rinse prior to washing. Do not over fill your wash I recommend no more than 20-24 diapers per load. 4.) Hot wash and cold rinse. Use %uFFFD to %uFFFD of normal amount of detergent. Dry on medium heat. 5.) Wool diaper covers should be washed by hand when they are dirty or smelly. **Please reference washing & warranty by brand for detailed instructions.
